What is Workcamp?

In 1976, Colorado sustained a catastrophic flood. The following year, Thom Schultz, founder of Group Publishing, organized church youth groups from across the country to come to Colorado and help rebuild the homes and lives of the flood victims. More than 300 teenagers and their youth leaders arrived in Colorado and worked on over 50 repair projects. As a result, Group Cares was established as the nonprofit partner of Group Publishing. Since then, more than 450,000 mission trip participants have racked up more than 13 million volunteer hours serving people in need.

Forty years later, one constant remains true: We strongly believe in providing opportunities for teenagers to grow closer to Jesus through serving others either in their own backyard or halfway across the globe. The Group Mission Trips legacy of lasting impact continues.

Alpine Lutheran Church has been participating in group workcamps since 1984.
