Spring is here! This time of year feels like an invitation to reflect on the beauty and joys of being a beloved creation of God. Do you feel this way?
Nathi and I are first time home buyers. We have our own yard for the first time where we get to sit and watch God’s wonderful creation come to life. Our grass is growing, as we expected, but so are so many things we had no idea were there! We have beautiful red tulips that are growing in the middle of our yard and around our house. We have four huge rhubarb plants growing at the back of our yard. We have little shrubs and hostas that are starting to poke through the rocks. We have huge trees that are starting to bud with signs of new life. Every day there is new in our yard and it makes me reflect on how wonderfully made everything in this created world is. I found this poem that I would like to share with you all.
Spirit of Spring Emergence,
your glory rises from winter’s gentle remnants.
Tender shoots of green grass reach upward through leaves still in decay.
Squirrels untuck from their nests and tip-toe across soils damp with melted snow.
As the light of day rises and begins to stretch, birdsong calls life to wake.
May all who wonder and worry before lands still slumbering
know yours is a trustworthy hope.
Even in the restless seasons of quiet persistent grief,
hovering like a winter darkness whose work it seems will never end,
you are the whispered promise,
humble and patient,
of what is carefully held and hidden in the depths
just waiting for its right time
to buzz, bustle, and blossom us to life again.

May we reflect on where God is showing up for us in this time of new life, spring, and new season. May we listen to the Holy Spirit as the wind brushes against our skin. May we see the resurrected Christ in the plants and animals that come out from a time of death to a time of rebirth. May we know that we are beloved, and invited into the gift of the Kingdom of God.
Peace, Pastor Rachel Perkins-Gama
